Water Pollution

Pollution water represents 14,000 deaths every day, everywhere in the world.  An estimated 14 billion pounds of sewage, sludge and waste in the oceans of the world. The process of elimination of pollutants is far from warranty. Developed countries have systems in place are still affected by the cumulative effects of the process of purification of water purification.

Identification

Water pollution occurs when entering water of harmful pollutants. Pollutants in the form of microbes and synthetic disinfectants and radioactive materials, as well as organic and inorganic waste. Pollutants of water from sources 2. Point sources of sewage and industrial waste. Diffuse sources caused by drainage and runoff. Absorption capacity of these elements, it comes in contact with the transport of contaminants average easily from one place to the other water. In the United States (EPA) environmental protection agency is responsible for the maintenance of water quality and monitoring of activities that threaten our waters.

Function

Point non-polluting are the main cause of water pollution. Water runoff that occurs due to the rain or the snow melt of organic and inorganic pollutants in rivers, lakes and coastal waters. All material on the ground or in the water is absorbed into the ground and released in our water supply. Chemicals used in agriculture and toxic materials of energy production, and bacteria from animal waste pollutants from diffuse sources. Thus, our reserves of drinking water, wildlife and recreation waters pose health and environmental risks for all forms of life.

Significance

Effects of pollution of the water on the human and animal vary according to the type of relevant pollutants. Calculation of organic matter and the accumulation of nutrients from algae in bodies of water. Crowd finally exhausted the content of oxygen in the water, which kills fish and other aquatic organisms. The spread of infection in the population, as well as the livestock of bacterial microbes from wastewater and they eventually make their way into our drinking water. Thus, the virus strains in the human population more drug-resistant. Sediment accumulation of heavy metals used in industrial plants in lakes and rivers. Fish and crustaceans that live in these waters constitute a large part of the fish we eat. Polluting heavy metals have been associated with congenital malformations and carcinogens.

Prevention/resolution

Agency of the Office for the protection of the environment federal employment to protect human health and the environment. Maintain the quality of our water is one of the many areas in which they operate. Quality air, climate concerns and planning in support of our ecosystems are some of the projects under their jurisdiction. To combat the pollution of waters, EPA follows the levels of pesticides in our water, minerals, oil, sediment supply. The other factor that affects the quality of the water such as temperature, flow, and the health of aquatic life and monitor closely. Classification systems are set up to identify water sources are contaminated, at risk or scanning for public use. This system allows to evaluate the effectiveness of control measures and areas for improvement.

Warning

Water purification processes rely heavily on the use of chlorine to eliminate harmful bacteria and disease-causing organisms. And while the effects of chlorinated water don't pose an immediate threat, long term use has been linked to cancers of the liver, bladder and colon according to Francis T. Mayo, director of the Municipal Environmental Research Laboratory. Reports from The National Cancer Institute show the risk of getting cancer is 93 percent higher for people who drink chlorinated water. Chlorination is also identified as a cause of heart disease, high blood pressure, allergies and atherosclerosis. Researchers attribute these causes to byproducts that form when chlorine reacts with organic compounds in the water. These resulting byproducts are organic mutations that contain carcinogenic materials.
